December 9, 2008
Dear Friends,
As we approach the celebration of Christ’s birth, God’s incarnation, I want to encourage you to “remember the prisoners” at the Miramar Brig.
Remember Norm, who missed the “Christmas Cut” and will be released on December 30 and return to his family in San Antonio. Remember Jeff, whose father is in the early stages of both Alzheimers and Parkinsons. Remember John, whose wife Debbie is seriously considering divorce. Remember Mike whose grandfather (who raised him) is seriously ill. And remember Nate, who struggles with patience and anger.
There are others who attend our Wednesday night study regularly who also covet your prayers: Marty, Dan, Eric, Bruce, Tim, and Joshua will all appreciate your prayers. Please remember them, too. All of these men rejoice in their salvation, but their circumstances often give little motivation for rejoicing.
Next Wednesday (December 10) will be our last study until January 21, 2009. Like most of the military, the Brig goes on holiday stand-down, and all religious events are cancelled except for worship services. I’ll attend the Sunday services a few times during the holidays to keep in touch with the men.
There is a new study group in the B-3 dorm, in addition to the ongoing group in B-1, so those men still have the opportunity to study and pray together.
Please consider this important ministry in your year-end and annual giving. Or for monthly support in 2009. Checks should be made payable to RPJM, with “Hebrews 13:3” on the memo line, and mailed in the enclosed envelope.
May the wonder of Christ’s redeeming love drive you to more joyful obedience.
Merry Christmas!
